TrailLog - Event Based History Archiving
ABB Ability™ History supports archiving of time series history data and events and storing the archived events in a separate log called TrailLog.
Storing Events for Analysis
Additional functionality related to TrailLog is that it is providing information for the dabase management to archive the history data that the event describes. This means that even if the event time period is going to be older that the retention time of the stored history data, the data is not removed from the database, but stored to separate Trail table. Trail table enable online analysis with the data even if it is beyond the length of the history table.
Browsing TrailLog Events
Engineering UI contains a list dashboard to browse TrailLog. With this dashboard you can also create new events and enable the archiving.

Identification of the Event

| Name | String | Name of the event. |
| Comment | String | Additional explanation of the event. |
Filtering for History Data Archiving

| Start Time | Timestamp | Start time of the history period to archive. |
| End Time | Timestamp | End time of the history period to archive. |
| Process Path | Path ID | Archives all Variables and Equipment instances below the specified path. If null, includes all Variables and Equipment instances in the database. |
| Variable | Variable ID | Restricts archiving to a single Variable. |
| History | History Table ID | Restricts archiving to the specified history table. If not defined, all history tables and event logs are archived, if the table is enabled for archiving in the table configuration. |
